Texan T6-G Warbird

Texan T6-G Warbird

The Texan (or Harvard) was the most widely used training aircraft in World War II and in the years immediately following. Almost every airforce around the world used these aircraft to train their fighter pilots.

The Texan, which is owned by Wyllie Aviation Pty Ltd, has been fully restored to the "G" model specification as built in later production runs in 1943 by the manufacturer, North American Aviation. It is the only T6-G model in Western Australia and is painted to represent the USAAF all weather flying unit based at Clinton County Air Force Base in Ohio, USA.

Powered by the reliable Pratt & Whitney R1340 600hp radial engine driving a Hamilton standard constant-speed propeller, the Texan makes a very distinctive noise, particularly when high rpm are used. Cruise speed is 120 mph with a fuel consumption of around 27 imp gal/hr (122 Lt) depending on the power setting used. Landing speed is 80 mph and a flight in this beautifully restored warbird is an experience to remember.

This aircraft was sold to a private owner in 2006.
